Synopsis

Jasmine and Raheem Matthews are joyfully expecting their first child, but as Jasmine prepares to become a mother, she grows increasingly fearful about raising a Black son in America. After friends move abroad, she begins exploring whether another country could offer their family a safer life. Raheem refuses to leave the home, family and restaurant they have built, believing he can teach their son how to survive and that staying to fight for justice matters. But on the night Jasmine goes into labor, their lives collide with the very danger she fears when Raheem’s brother Andre is rushed into the same emergency room after being shot by police and dies. One year later, Jasmine and Raheem are raising their son abroad, surrounded by family and carrying Andre’s memory forward in the child who bears his name.
